Honors and Blessings The Chattan Torah and Chattan Bereishit are two of the greatest honors of Simchat Torah. The Chattan Torah receives the final aliyah as we complete the reading of the entire Torah, symbolizing the fulfillment and joy of the Torah we’ve learned and lived throughout the year. The Chattan Bereishit is called up immediately after, to begin the Torah anew with the opening words of Bereishit Bara Elokim, representing fresh beginnings, renewal, and the strength to start the new year with light and inspiration.
